Rochelle Lee “Shelly” Bettner

Rochelle Lee “Shelly” Bettner, age 79, of Chilton was called home to God on Tuesday, December 15, 2015; her faith in her Lord constantly helped her though the trials of her health during her final days. She was born April 23, 1936 in Potter, daughter of the late Ruben & Adela (Lerche) Bettner and graduated from Brillion High School.

Rochelle traveled many paths laid before her in life. She started as a nurse’s aide at Bellin Hospital before becoming a volunteer of services for a church in Pottstown, PA. She returned to Chilton where she worked in the office of the original Calumet Memorial Hospital.

Her work as a receptionist was what became her real calling in life. Rochelle joined the office of Dr. Pinney in Hilbert where she shared her warm, friendly smile and concerns with the people of the surrounding area.

Rochelle later moved to Cincinnati to be with her sister Vi and their mother. It was during this time that she became a receptionist for a radio station and later was hired by a local TV station. This television job was a time of great excitement for Rochelle where she met many unique and famous people, most notably Dolly Parton.

Time spent in Cincinnati afforded many great memories as a family and with friends, especially attending Cincinnati Reds Games during the years of the Big Red Machine.

When her mother’s health began to fail, she resigned her position to take on an even more important position, the care and nurture of her mother.

After a number of years, she and Vi returned to Chilton where she remained until her death.

She was a member of Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter and had been a former member of St. Paul Church in Cincinnati; both churches were blessed with Rochelle’s presence and love of singing in the choir.

Rochelle will be missed by her four sisters: Viorene Bettner, Gloria Brehmer, Lyndoris Jandrey and Wynogene Schmitting; her brothers: Dennis & Stanford “Butch” Bettner and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be fondly remembered as a loving sister and aunt.

Rochelle was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law: Judy Bettner; her brothers-in-law: Earl Brehmer, Norman Jandrey, & Art Schmitting.

Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church (181 Main St.) in Potter with the Rev. Dr. Marc Axelrod officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until 11:15 am on Saturday, December 19, 2015.
