Roger Cyril Brockway

Roger Cyril Brockway, age 90, joined his wife Denise in eternal peace on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born at home on February 2, 1932 in Van Dyne, Wisconsin, the son of Roy and Emma Brockway, Roger had a life filled with a large extended family and many who looked up to him for support along the way. His life was not always easy, but he made the most of what he was given.

The best gift life gave him was his bride, Denise Linda Reseburg, who he married on September 1, 1951. Their early years of marriage included providing a home to five of their younger siblings at various times. This generosity cemented their relationships for life.   61 years of marriage brought 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Children included: Coleen (Mike) Rudolph, Sandra (Ron) Henshue, Wayne Brockway and Traci Brockway.

Roger proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and in 2017 was part of the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington DC.  He worked his entire life for the City of Fond du Lac as Public Works Supervisor where he retired at the age of 55.  Upon retirement, he and Denise began the next chapter of life in their beloved Neshkoro home in the woods which they built with the help of many friends, family and most especially their son, Wayne.  Roger was heavily involved with the VFW Club of Neshkoro, selling poppies, planning spaghetti dinner fundraisers, and participating in local parades and military funerals.

The woods provided much of Roger’s joy and recreation as a sawyer, bird and animal lover, gardener, apple tree tender, and deer and turkey hunter. His joy for the earth and woods was passed onto his children and grandchildren. Each grandchild had a tree planted which they lovingly claimed as their own.  Many long weekends were spent fishing, ATVing, making maple syrup, cutting logs, freezing huge quantities of apple pies, vegetables, and delicious sweet corn, and walking in the woods.  If only all children had those awesome childhood experiences!

Along the way Roger and Denise were able to travel well.  Trips included Europe with daughter Traci, Alaska (six weeks in the back of a converted truck bed), Florida for the warmth in winter, and many trips to Texas and Tennessee to be with extended family members.

Preceding Roger in death is his beloved wife, Denise, his parents and 6 siblings.

Roger is survived by his four children, six grandchildren: Brittany (Adam) Mescher, Kristina (Dan) Swatfager, Ashley (Edward) Rodenkirch, Erica (Jesse) Drewry, Luke Brockway, Brock Mayer and step grandchildren: Katie and Kyle.  Great grands: William, Adalynn, Lydia, Hayes, Jocelyn and soon to be born baby girl Mescher.  He is also survived by brother Dale Brockway and sister Diane Davis and many loving nieces and nephews too numerous to list who adored and showered him with love.

The family would like to thank all who visited, sent notes and phone calls during his final months at Hospice.  Your loving efforts gave his life meaning and helped in a peaceful passing. A special thank you to Hospice Home of Hope for the attention, gentle care, and patience you provided Dad on our behalf. You are special people called to do important work.
