Ronald A. Schmitt

Ronald A. “Ron” Schmitt, age 72, of Chilton died on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 following a long illness at Libby’s House in Chilton.  He was born January 5, 1949 in Charlesburg, Wisconsin, son of the late Joseph P. & Mary (Lodes) Schmitt.

Ron was a graduate of the 1967 class of Chilton High School and even before he graduated began his working career at Chilton Plating Company where he remained until it’s closure.  He later began working for Ornua Foods in St. John until his retirement in 2020.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish, formerly St. Mary Parish.

Ron was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  The Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers lost a life long fan because Ron continually followed the teams religiously.  Ron enjoyed music, especially listening to his juke box with the soothing sounds of polka, the music era of the 50’s and 60’s and always appreciated the works of Elvis Presley.  Ron never passed up an opportunity to attend an auction or a local yard sale to find treasures to add to his collection, or take a chance at a scratch off ticket while filling up his vehicle with gas.

He is survived by his siblings, Agnes (Francis) Wenig, Monica Knauf, Albert (Cindy) Schmitt, & Loretta Heller.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Kenneth Schmitt; his brothers-in-law: Thomas Knauf & Harold Heller and his special friend: Myrtle Longrie.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Ron’s family would like to thank the staff at Libby’s House, the Calumet County Health & Homecare Staff as well as everyone at the Ascension Oncology Team for all of the care and compassion that was shown to Ron and his family.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Ronald A. “Ron” Schmitt.
