Samuel A. Kopf

Samuel A. Kopf, age 65, of Chilton died on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home in Chilton.  He was born July 6, 1953 in Fond du Lac, son of Arthur & Joyce (Hein) Kopf.  Sam married Linda Hegewald on May 10, 1980 at St. John Catholic Church in St. John.

Sam graduated from Chilton High School, class of 1971 and then earned a degree in Dairy Sciences from UW Madison in 1975.  It was at this time that he returned to work on the family farm in the Town of Chilton.  Upon leaving the farm, he began working at PPI as a Strip Line Operator, but often enjoyed telling people he was a professional stripper.  Following his retirement from PPI, Sam didn’t sit still for very long when he began building milk parlors for LDS which afforded him the opportunity to travel and meet new people.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where he had sang in the choir, taught CCD and devoted time and prayer to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel.  He was also a member of UW Madison Alpha Gamma Rho and looked forward to reunions with his fraternity friends.  Sam loved to play board games and went out of his way at game conventions to teach people how to play new and various games.

Sam truly appreciated his community and strove to make it the best place he could.  He served on the Chilton Public Schools School Board, volunteered time at the Chilton Father’s Day Parade lining up parade floats and donated blood to the American Red Cross every chance he could ever since he was in college. He also was a member of the FFA and did chain gang for high school football games.

Sam was best known as a social butterfly who loved to be around people and strike up conversation.  In his bartending days, Sam was able to gab with countless patrons and was known to serenade the bar with his vast repertoire of music.

Survivors include his wife: Linda; his children: Sara (Greg) Bartel, Tracy (Brian) Grosskreutz, Jason Kopf; a grandchild: Katie Bartel; his parents: Art & Joyce Kopf; his sisters: Sue (Al) Ammerman, Mary (Floyd) Scullion, Vicki Bergeron, & Jodi (Ron) Ditter; brother-in-law, Roger Hegewald; and sister-in-law, Paula (Steve) Walters and Lori Brown.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Michael Scullion.
