Shirley A. Smith

Shirley A. Smith, 74, of Brownsville, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at her residence. She was born March 9, 1942 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of John and Gwendolyn Watson Thornton. On July 6, 1963 she married Dale L. Smith at South Byron Methodist Church and he preceded her in death on December 14, 2015. They lived on the family farm all their married life. She worked for Diamond Drive In, California Canner & Grower, owned and operated two taverns, Service Motor Case Dealership, Action Advertiser, Fond du Lac County van driver, Mayville Nursing Home, Pizza Ranch, and various places as a caregiver/companion for the elderly and disabled, and volunteered many hours to the Oakfield Food Pantry. She also belonged to Dodge County Tavern League, Brownsville Ladies Aid, Farm Bureau, and Eagles Aerie #270. She enjoyed bowling, darts, knitting, loved traveling, watching the Packers, Friday Night Fish Fry and loved watching and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.



She left behind her three children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Gary S. (Catherine) Osier, Sr. and children, Adam Schwind, Stephanie Meyers, Adam, Jacob, and Matthew Elert, Gary Osier, Jr., and Chelsea Sewell; Jeff (Ann) Smith and their child, Katie Weiting; and Dawn (Jake Minger) Kulogo and children, Nicholas, Travis and Victoria Kulogo; great grandchildren, Shelby Wieting, Alex and Connor Schwind; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Jennifer Thornton and Floyd and Carol Smith.



The visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ with Rev. Ted Drewsen officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
