Sister Josefina (Berta Asunción) Galeano

Sister Josefina was born May 29, 1919, in León, Nicaragua, to Anselmo Ramírez and Clotilde Galeano.  She had one sister, Luisa.  Sister Josefina began her religious formation with the Sisters of St. Agnes in Nicaragua on June 13, 1952. She continued her studies, entering St. Agnes Convent in Fond du Lac during August 1953; she made first profession of vows on August 15, 1956.  Her ministry included domestic work, catechesis, and visiting the sick and elderly.  She served for forty-seven years in Nicaragua at the missions in Managua, Rosita, Waspam, and Puerto Cabezas.  She also ministered in Boca de Los Sapos, Ecuador.  Through her concern for the poor and her desire to provide for them, a group called Apostolate of the Sick was formed with the local women in Rosita.  This ministry still continues today.

Preceding Sister Josefina in death were her father, Anselmo Ramirez; her mother, Clotilde Galeano; and her sister Luisa Pastora Galeano.  She is survived by the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.
