Sister Margaret Pizarek

Sister Margaret Pizarek, formerly known as Sister Joseph Maria, died peacefully

on March 14, 2014, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, WI.

Margaret was born on June 10, 1914, in Michigan City, IN to Joseph G. and Mary J. Mark Pizarek. The Pizareks had nine children, five boys and four girls.  Margaret made her first profession as a Sister of St. Agnes on August 15, 1936.  Sister received a BA degree in English and History and an MA degree in History.  She taught in elementary schools, secondary schools and college in WI, MI, NY, KS, IL, and IN.  After teaching Sister worked with Marriage Encounter Retreats and was a Eucharistic Minister for the home bound.  She states that this was a time for greatest growth and transformation for her.

Sister Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Joseph G. and Mary J. Pizarek; her brothers John, Joseph and James Henry; her sisters Mary Jo and Martha A. Bandoski.  She is survived by her brothers Jacob C. and Jerome T.; her sister Marcella C.; and the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett St.   A Prayer Service will be at 11:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on March 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St., with Fr. Ken Smits, Capuchin presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery on County Road K.

The Sisters of St. Agnes are grateful to the nurses and staff of Nazareth Court and Center, St. Francis Home, and Hospice for their care of Sister Margaret in her last years.
