Steven “Injun” J. Smith

Steven “Injun” J. Smith, 56, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Hospice Home of Hope. He was born in Fond du Lac on June 22, 1959, the only son of Lyle and Elizabeth (King) Smith. On July 4, 1981, Steve married Tammy Burgess in Fond du Lac.

Steve dedicated 34 years to Abel Landscaping. He took pride in his work and it shows in many yards today. After Abel Landscaping closed, he helped his son open their own landscaping business.

Steve will be remembered by his quirky jokes and ability to make people laugh. He touched so many people with his sensitive heart. He left behind many memories for us all to cherish.

His greatest enjoyments were being outdoors hunting, camping, riding ATV’s, bowling and fishing. He also enjoyed sturgeon spearing with his cousin, Terry.

He did not lose his battle to cancer. He fought harder than humanly possible. He was able to get his dying wish and travel out West to many National Parks with family and special friends. He will be so greatly missed. He is pain free now soaring with the angels and family we have already lost, and his best friend, Terry Herbst. May they burn up the trails in Heaven and watch over the rest of us.

Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tammy; his daughter, April; his son, Shawn; his mother, Betty Smith; two sisters, Suzanne (Kurt) Koenigs and Gina Smith (Bill Abel), and many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle; and his wife’s parents, Richard and Patricia Burgess.

Visitation for Steve will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bill Beaton of Salem- UMC officiating. Burial will then take place in Rienzi Cemetery.
