Theodore “Ted” Huizenga, Jr.,

Theodore “Ted” Huizenga, Jr., 82, of rural Waupun, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun.

 

Ted was born December 2, 1930 in South Holland, IL, the son of Theodore and Ida Van Kalker Huizenga, Sr. Ted was a graduate of Thorton Township High School in 1950. Ted proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years. On March 10, 1955 he married Elaine Karberg in South Holland, IL. Following their marriage the couple resided in South Holland for 10 years where he owned a Texaco Service Station. They moved to Waupun in 1965. He had a pig farm, worked the land, and was also employed by Westra Construction. Ted was a member of Alto Reformed Church and its Golden Lifers. He was an active member of American Legion Post 210 in Waupun. Ted was an avid traveler, a very social individual and a life-long learner.

 

Ted is survived by his wife, Elaine Huizenga of rural Waupun; four daughters, Cathy (Dwaine) Vande Berg of Waupun, Jane (Paul) Neevel of Brandon, Sheila (Randy) Kircher of Campbellsport, and Angela (Darin) Woehl of Asheville, NC; a son-in-law, Calvin “Bo” Mahurien of Zieglerville, PA; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer (Norma) Huizenga of California, Gerald (Pat) Huizenga of Missouri, and Roger (Wilma) Huizenga of Indiana; and a sister, Marge (Elmer) Pruim of Florida.

 

Ted was preceded in death by two daughters, Sally Huizenga and Terri Mahurien.

 

Funeral services for Ted Huizenga will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Alto Reformed Church with Rev. Ted Medema officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.  Friends and relatives of Ted Huizenga may call on the family on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard will provide military honors.
