Theodore “Ted” Vander Woude

Theodore
“Ted” Vander Woude, 88, of Waupun, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. The
family will cherish his memory and know he has gone to his Heavenly home by his
loving wife of 61 years.

 

Ted was born
August 10, 1925 in the town of Randolph, the son of Dirk and Gertrude Schaalma
Vander Woude. On October 14, 1948 he married Gertrude Pater. The couple resided
in Waupun all their married lives. Ted graduated from Randolph Christian
School. After he attended radio school in Chicago, IL he worked at Montgomery
Ward. Ted was part owner/operator of Deep Rock Service Station in Waupun where
he began collecting cars for his next business venture which developed into
Van’s Auto Salvage. He ran the yard for 50 years while working 20+ years at
National Rivet. In 1982 his son, Larry joined the salvage yard operation. Ted
enjoyed traveling, visiting with people, fishing, and he always enjoyed a good
joke. Ted was a member of First Reformed Church in Waupun.

 

Ted is
survived by his four children, Larry (Jolene) Vander Woude of Waupun, Dennis
(Carol) Vander Woude of Waupun, Shirley (Tom) Walters of Markesan, and Lori
(Wes) Dalka of Oakfield; nine grandchildren, Greg Vander Woude, Aimee (James)
Wilson, Brenda (Tony) Edmunds, Jennifer Meyer, Tamara (Clifford “Butch”)
Kersten, Jesse Vander Woude, Artie (Katie) Garcia, Jeremy Vander Woude(special
friend, Katie Howard ), Jamie Vander Woude (special friend, Cody Weber); 11
great-grandchildren, Morgan, Jordan, Jayden, Trent, Jon, David, Ian, Josie,
Anthony, Ann, and Devan; two sisters, Catherine (Walter) Riel and Irene (Alvin)
Van Loo; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Streekstra of Waupun and Betty Oonk of
Cedar Grove; and nieces and nephews.

 

Ted was
preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude on January 21, 2010; his parents, a
sister, Cornelia Van Loo; two brothers, William Vander Woude and Peter Vander
Woude; and a great-grandson, Nathan Schmidt.

 

Funeral
services for Ted Vander Woude will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:30
a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Bob James officiating.
Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on the
family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday at the
funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

 

The family
requests that memorials be directed to the Randolph Christian School.
