Thomas “Tom” R. Gaffney

Thomas “Tom” R. Gaffney, 82, of Fond du Lac passed away unexpectedly Friday September 27, 2013 at St. Agnes Hospital.

He was born June 14, 1931 in Fond du Lac, a son of the late Charles and Kathryn Purrier Schwartz.

On February 3, 1951 he married Beverly Pagel at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.

Tom graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School in 1950.  Tom was employed with Tolibia Cheese, Damrow Corp., and Mercury Marine retiring in 1997.  Tom was a loving father to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He enjoyed traveling, country music, auto racing, the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his six children: Christine Berres (partner Cheryl Bausch) of Campbellsport, Bonnie (Greg) Braun of Taycheedah, Rick (Lonnie) Gaffney of Oakfield, Deb Gaffney of Fond du Lac, Sandy Gaffney of Fond du Lac, and Cheri (Tom) Guy of Plymouth; eleven grandchildren: Tammy (Corey) Vander Grinten, Tara (Scott) Seelig, Tom (Holly) Schwefel, Todd (Heidi) Zivkovich, Teresa McIntosh, Jason (Wendy) Jacobs, Jenna (Jared) Riemann, Callie Gaffney, Jarrod Gaffney, Christopher Guy, and Nick Guy; 16 great grandchildren: Allyssa, Lindsay, Ryan, Chloe, Kylie, Elijah, Samantha, Olivia, Ellie, Madeline, Casey, Emily, Michaela, Chase, Hudson, and Lincoln; one daughter in law, Judy Gaffney of N Fond du Lac, one sister Carol Schwartz of Fond du Lac; one  brother in law Ray Pagel of Fond du Lac; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Bev, two infant sons Tommy and Michael; one son Randy; one son in law, Glenn Zivkovich and one grandson in law Sam McIntosh.

Visitation:  Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St, Fond du Lac.  There will also be visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:15 AM.

Services:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2013, 11:00 AM at Holy Family Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Avenue.  Entombment will take place in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

Family would like to thank the staff at Agnesian Dialysis and Patsy Pagel and Ray Pagel for taking Tom to dialysis for the past seven years.
