Vergene Hintz

Vergene “Vergie” Hintz, 88, of Fond du Lac, Wis., passed away, Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac. She was born on the rural family farm near Amherst Junction, Wis. on June 1, 1933, to Jacob and Edith (Weidemann) Lutz. Vergie was a graduate of Amherst High School. On April 7, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart Myron “Mike” Hintz in Fond du Lac and celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing on April 15, 2017. Vergie retired from Mercury Marine after many years of service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community Church and the Lake Emily Association.

Vergie loved and will be missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She took delight in making and giving of her many talents, some of which included crocheting and sewing. Vergie enjoyed working with her husband, Mike, in the orchard they established (Apple Valley Orchard) and making new friends while selling apples at open markets in Fond du Lac and Madison. Weekends were spent making fresh apple cider with family. Both enjoyed pan fishing with extended family at Cass Lake, Minnesota, and summer camping trips. Vergie was an excellent cook, preparing a variety of meals and desserts for those she loved. She was proud of her garden, and especially of her prized “Weidemann” tomatoes. Vergie and Mike enjoyed many happy days together fishing, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends at both their home in Fond du Lac and on Lake Emily.

Survivors include four children, Diane (Mark) Whyms, Howard (Kathi) Hintz, Janice (Tim) Klaske and Mark (Ginger) Hintz; eleven grandchildren, Laura (Joshua) Ingram, Emily Whyms, Annette (Adam) Blindauer, Garrett Whyms, Jacob Hintz, Joseph (Maggie) Hintz, Elizabeth Hintz, Kimberly (Brad) Beger, Rachel Simon, Michael (Chrystal) Hintz, and Thomas (Jenna) Hintz; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Mira, Emma, Hannah, Alyssa, Paige, Wyatt, Joel, Jack, Jackie, Charlotte, Abigail, Sawyer, Davis, and Ella. She is further survived by one brother, LaVerne (Glenice) Lutz; in-laws, Ernie Hintz, George (Ginny) Hintz, Connie (Sandy) Hintz, and Dee (Dennis) Berna. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by loving family; Adeline (Lefty) Ziegler, Gilbert Lutz, John (Helen) Lutz, Otto (Myra) Lutz, Glenn (Maxine) Lutz, Jacob “Sonny” Lutz, Edward (Veronica) Hintz, Leonard (Toni) Hintz, Eddie (Henrietta) Hintz, Greta Hintz, Ramona (Ben) Gavin, and Alvin Hoffmann.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth St. Way in Fond du Lac. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church beginning at 11:00 AM with entombment to follow in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
