Virginia A. Schmidt

Virginia A. Schmidt, age 92, a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Riverwood Estates in Manitowoc.  She was born on January 12, 1921 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Walter and Marguerite (Rothgery) Wertz.  On January 15, 1945 she married Leonard W. Schmidt in at St Mary’s Rectory in Fond du Lac.  He preceded her in death on January 31, 1983. 

 

Mrs. Schmidt was a 1938 graduate of Fond du Lac High School and later attended Fountain City Business College.  She was employed by Frank J. Stepnoski & Son, (Architects) and Damrow Company, the latter for a period of over forty years until her retirement in April of 1983.

 

Her retirement was filled with many enjoyable travel trips to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Greece, Spain, France, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and Cancun.    She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Fond du Lac, the American Legion Auxiliary, NALC, as well as a member of the Fond du Lac County Health Care Auxiliary.  She also did volunteer work for over twenty years at St. Agnes Hospital as well as at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.  She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

 

SURVIVORS:  one daughter Jacquelyn (David) Schibline of Manitowoc; two grand-daughters, Jessica (Jason) Stark of Muskego, WI, and Nicole (John) Brigham of Manitowoc, WI; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew Stark, Taylor and Michael Brigham; one niece Nancy (Mike) Glasby of Arlington Heights, IL.  She was preceded in her death by parents, her husband Leonard, one brother Howard, one sister Mildred and her husband Chuck Stottlemire, one nephew, John Stottlemire, special friend Ervin Buehner.

 

VISITATION:  Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until 12 noon at Holy Family Parish-Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI.  FUNERAL:  Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 12 noon at the church.  Cremation will follow the traditional services with interment to take place at Estabrooks Cemetery.
