Vivian M. Hertel

Vivian M. Hertel, age 92, of Chilton, died on December 20, 2018, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. She was born September 10, 1926, in Stockbridge, daughter of Henry and Anna Thill. She married the late Zeno Hertel on May 29, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.



Vivian worked as a bookkeeper most of her life, most notably with Hart Carter – Lawson Engine Division, General Telephone, the Gilbertson Drug Store and the Calumet Medical Center. She also waitressed at local favorite establishments including the Old Mill, The Altona, and Hickory Hills. Outside of work, Vivian kept herself busy by being involved in her church and community. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton and used her bookkeeping skills to help them count money for over 30 years while serving on the church council for three years as well. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers, and she volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul. She was part of the VFW Auxiliary for over 60 years, holding many different offices, and she was on the Chilton City Election Board. She was the proud parent of an Eagle Scout and acted as a Den Mother for the organization. 



Vivian is survived by her children: Kathryn (Jay) Skemp, Matthew (Shelley) Hertel, and Joanne (Charles) Loy; grandchildren: Kerry Skemp (Jim Louisell), Dana (Sean) Ryan, Lindsey Hertel, and Jackson Graham; great-grandchildren: Eloise Ryan, Colin Ryan, and Ada Skemp; her AFS exchange student daughter: Monika (Konrad) Kasper, and Monika’s children and grandchildren: Heike (Achim) Gonnerman, Nora Kasper, and Nils and Pia Gonnerman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.



Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Zeno; her parents: Henry and Anna; and sisters: Margaret (E. John) Mueller, Theresa (Emil) Steiner, Esther (Albert) Ludwig, Crescence (Hugo) Zahringer, and Felicia (Robert) Kempen.



Funeral services are set for 11:30am on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 9:00am until 11:00am on the day of the service.
