Wayne D. Schmidt

Wayne Douglas Schmidt began his eternal life on October 17, 2018 at the age of 83.

His journey started on August 9, 1935, born to Myrtle and Gordon Schmidt in Shawano, Wisconsin. It was also there that he met and married his beloved Francine. After completing a degree in Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he began his career in sales, working mainly in the pharmaceutical industry where he excelled not only as a salesman but also as mentor to those looking to following his career path.

Wayne’s love of the outdoors, notably hunting and fishing, was cultivated throughout his years, particularly at his and Francine’s cottage in Pickerel, Wisconsin. He was an active member of the North Fond du Lac Optimists and a yearly participant of Fishing Has No Boundaries with his son, Thomas. Wayne possessed an extraordinary love of literature and would seldom be seen without a book or newspaper within arm’s reach. A conversation with him promised wit, at least one new vocabulary word, and newfound knowledge about a plethora of subjects…Interacting with Wayne opened your eyes to a boundless curiosity about the world.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Francine; parents; and son-in-law, Stephen Ross. He is survived by his sister, Diane (Joseph) Owens and brother Thomas (Jayne) Schmidt; his children Mary (Burt) Philbrick, Susan (Dale) Jenkins, Barbara (Daniel) Steinacker, and Thomas; his grandchildren Lauren Ross, Zachary Philbrick, Alexandria Ross, Katherine Philbrick, Molly Steinacker, and Claire Steinacker.
