William E. “Bill” Pattermann
William E. “Bill” Pattermann, age 87, of Hilbert, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2018 in Lakeland Florida. He was born March 20, 1931 in Aurora, IL, son of the late Leo & Loraine (Kuhn) Pattermann. Bill married Arlene Weiland on September 27, 1952 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, IL and celebrated over 65 years of marriage.
Throughout his entire life, Bill wore many hats and never let the grass grow under his feet. Early in his life while in Illinois, Bill proudly gave prime years of his life in service to his country while serving with the Illinois National Guard from 1950 until 1956. During this time, he also worked as a brick layer, farmed the flat lands of Illinois and operated his own grain trucking business until 1971. It was at this time he and his family moved to Potter where he continued to farm until 1986.
Bill and Arlene sold the farm and moved to the Village of Hilbert where he would often be seen cruising the streets on his moped stopping to chat with anyone and everyone he could. His warm smile and easy going spirit was a welcomed blessing to all those he met.
While residing in Hilbert, Bill also managed the FS Co-Op in Hilbert, drove gas truck for Gehl & Lunda Oil Company, worked as the janitor of St. Mary Catholic School for 5 years and served as a crossing guard for the School District of Hilbert for 19 years.
Bill cherished moments he could spend with his wife, Arlene; summers at their cottage on Lake Noquebay in Crivitz and winters together in Lakeland, Florida brought him all the joy and relaxation he could ask for. In his free time, Bill was often found in conversation with himself and looked forward to swinging the sticks on some of his favorite golf courses. Bill was extremely proud of his Hole in One at Hickory Hills Country Club in 2011 and spoke often of the unbelievable moment. He loved time spent with his family, especially watching what his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were up to, and the many friends he had throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife: Arlene; two daughters: Lou Ann (Don) McHugh of Stoughton, WI, Linda (Rick) Thiel of Hilbert; two sons: Randy (Pattie) Pattermann of Elburn, IL, Lee (Ellen) Pattermann of Hilbert; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two more arriving soon; a brother: Tom (Joan) Pattermann of Sugar Grove, IL; and his brothers-in-law: Jim Weiland, LaVerne Weiland & Lenny (Judy) Weiland. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: John & Martha Weiland; two sons: Daniel in 1956 and Dennis in 1999; a brother: Jim (Jane) Pattermann; a sister: Mary Ann (Jim) Schaben; a brother-in-law: John (Alice) Weiland; and his sisters-in-law: Josephine Weiland & Clareen Weiland.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Monday, May 7, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 11:45 am on Monday, May 7, 2018.
