Officer Involved in Shooting at Oshkosh West Identified

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified the School
Resource Officer involved in a shooting at Oshkosh West High School on Tuesday.
The DOJ said in a news release that Oshkosh Police Officer Michael Wissink was
the officer injured during the incident Tuesday morning. WIssink has been with
the department for 21 years and has been a School Resource Officer since 2017.

Police Chief Dean Smith said in a news conference Tuesday
that a 16-year-old student entered Wissink’s office at the school, produced a
weapon and then stabbed the officer. Wissink then shot the student once. Both Wissink
and the student were taken to the hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.

The State Department of Criminal Investigation is handling
the investigation into the case. The release says DCI will turn over
investigative reports to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office when
the investigation concludes.
