One Dead, Many Injured in Pileup on I-41

Whiteout
conditions are being blamed for a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 41 near Neenah
this (Sunday) morning that has left one dead and multiple people injured. The
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says reports first came in of a multi-car
crash on southbound I-41 in the Town of Vinland around 11:10 am. Sheriff’s
officials said in a press conference this afternoon that they estimate in excess
of 100 vehicles were involved in the crash with varying degrees of damage. Injured
people were transported to hospitals in Oshkosh, Neenah, Appleton and Green Bay
as a result of the crash. The sheriff’s office says southbound Interstate 41
will be closed indefinitely between Highway 10 near Appleton and Highway 76 near Oshkosh. People looking for information about a loved one who may have
been involved in the crash, or who may have information for investigators of the
crash itself can call a special sheriff’s office phone line at 920-236-7459.
