Online Sales Tax Collection to Begin October 1st

Wisconsin will begin collecting online sales taxes starting October 1^st. The Legislative Fiscal Bureau estimates the tax collection will bring in an additional $90 million in revenue over the next year, then another $120 million in the second year. 

The Supreme Court ruled last month in support of states collecting taxes for online sales when retailers are based in other states – making the rules broader than they have in the past. Small businesses located in other states will be exempt from the online tax.
