Online Sales Tax Collection to Begin October 1st

Wisconsin will begin collecting online sales taxes starting October 1st. The Legislative Fiscal Bureau estimates the tax collection will bring in an additional $90 million in revenue over the next year, then another $120 million in the second year.

The Supreme Court ruled last month in support of states collecting taxes for online sales when retailers are based in other states – making the rules broader than they have in the past. Small businesses located in other states will be exempt from the online tax.
