Oshkosh Man Takes Child

The State Patrol took an Oshkosh man into custody
after he took his child from its mother last night and fled from the scene.
According to the State Patrol they were notified by the Winnebago County
Sheriff’s Office that Menasha Police were looking for 45-year-old Barrington Daniel and his
SUV, the non-custodial parent of a child that was taken. A state trooper spotted
the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the SUV sped up to 90 miles per hour.
The pursuit was cut short due to concerns about the child. However, the state
trooper continued to follow the vehicle at legal speeds. Shortly after 8 p.m.
Daniel came to a rail road crossing with the gates down and a moving train on
East Lone Elm in the Town of Van Dyne. He went through the first gate and turned parallel with the
tracks driving along side of the train and became stuck in the ditch.Daniel
ignored verbal pleas to get out of the SUV, but after 30 minutes exited it with
the baby. No one was injured and the child was returned to its mother. Daniel
was arrested on felony eluding and reckless endangerment charges.
