Packers Draft CB Stokes in First Round

On a day when the eyes of the NFL world were on Green Bay for anything BUT the NFL Draft, the Packers were all business, and selected cornerback Eric Stokes from the University of Georgia in Thursday’s first round with the 29th overall pick.

Stokes, a 6’1” 194 pound junior, intercepted four passes in his final season with the Bulldogs. Stokes also showed some major speed, running a 4.25 in the 40-yard dash at his pro day.

By picking Stokes, the Packers continue the trend of using their first (or early second round) picks to focus on defense. Only twice since 2011 has Green Bay taken an offensive player in the first round – tackle Derek Sherrod in 2011, and quarterback Jordan Love in 2020.

The Packers have two picks on day two of the draft:

2nd Round – #62 overall

3rd Round – #92 overall
