Partisan Probe Not Likely To Be Audited

A member of the legislature’s audit committee is not optimistic that the partisan probe into the 2020 election will be audited.

Senator Tim Carpenter wants the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau to look into former state Supreme Court Justice Mike Gableman’s investigation.

“I haven’t see a bigger waste of three-quarters of a million dollars and counting.”

Carpenter and the other Democrats on the audit committee requested that in a letter to Republican co-chairs, but he’s not optimistic.

“You know as a member of the audit committee I don’t know what else to do. We’re going to force votes on the floor and try to get some accountability, but for right now it’s quite an embarrassment.”

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has said progress has been slowed because local elected officials and others have refused to cooperate with subpoenas Gableman has issued.
