Peoria Powers Past Wisconsin

PEORIA, IL – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a 3-0 lead after the top of the fourth inning on Sunday at Dozer Park against the Peoria Chiefs.  Peoria turned that score around with three runs in their half of the fourth and three solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The Chiefs would go on to beat the Rattlers 6-4.

Wisconsin (12-9) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning.  Sal Frelick and Zavier Warren hit back-to-back doubles to start the frame with Frelick scoring on Warren’s two-bagger.  Warren has doubled in dour straight games.

Joe Gray Jr kept the inning moving with a single to center that sent Warren to third.  Then, Gray stole second and an errant throw on the attempt on the play let Warren score easily.  Gray followed that up by stealing third.  Carlos Rodríguez knocked in Gray with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Timber Rattlers starting pitcher Russell Smith walked two batters with one out and gave up an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.  Masyn Winn sent a high popup down the line in right and second baseman Ethan Murray made a long run to get the ball in his glove, but the ball popped out as he fell to the ground and all three runners scored on the triple by Winn to tie the game.

Peoria (12-9) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with three solo home runs off reliever Zach Mort.  Matt Chamberlain hit a lead-off home run.  Mack Chambers and Aaron Antonini followed one out later with back-to-back home runs to put the Chiefs up 6-3.

Murray started a small rally for the Rattlers in the seventh with a one-out walk.  Tristan Peters tripled off the wall in center to score Murray and Wisconsin trailed by two runs.

In the eighth, Gray doubled and Darrien Miller walked with one out to bring the lead run to the plate.  Ryan Loutos entered the game for the Chiefs as their third pitcher of the game and he retired the next two batters to maintain Peoria’s lead.

Peters singled with out in the ninth, but Loutos got the next two outs to get his third save of the season.

Peoria won five of the six games in the series.
