Photos Needed For Elected Sheriffs Wall

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office would like to hear from anyone who has photos or history of former County Sheriffs. Sheriff’s Secretary Donna Whitty says they have a wall at the department devoted to the elected sheriffs of Fond du Lac County. She says recently they heard from a woman in California who had ties to one of the County’s first sheriffs. Neil Currie Bell was a sheriff in Fond du Lac County in 1883 and Pat Bell and her father Carl were related to him. Neil was her great-great uncle. Whitty says they’d love to get more photos of formers Sheriffs to put up on the wall. Fond du Lac County has had a sheriff since 1849. Whitty says they found some interesting things about Neil Currie Bell when his relatives inquired about him. Bell was born in Scotland in 1806. He fought in the Civil War, and then moved to Eldorado where he was living when he was elected sheriff. Those who might have a photo of a former sheriff or history can call Whitty at (920) 929-3372.
