Pilot Rescued from Partially Submerged Airplane in Lake Winnebago

The Fond du Lac County
Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an airplane partially submerged in Lake Winnebago Wednesday evening. Deputies were called to
the scene off Velvet Beach Road
in the Town of Calumet
just after 7pm. Upon arriving, they found a 1980 Coot Amphibian Plane partially
submerged in about three feet of water. Investigators say the pilot, identified
as Glenn C. Moore from Elkhart
Lake
, was trying to take
off when one of the plane’s sponsons began to take on water. A sponson then
tore off the plane, causing it to take on more water and partially sink. Moore was able to get out of the airplane safely and was
able to flag down a boater who helped take Moore and the plane to shore. Moore was not injured in
the crash. The Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are
investigating the incident.
