Plane Crash at FDL Airport

Update:

Two men from Santa Fe, New Mexico were seriously injured when their plane crashed at the Fond du Lac County Airport Thursday morning. Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says a number of people at a business off the airport property saw the plane crash. He says it appeared the operator lost control of the plane during a landing or banking maneuver and crashed in the northwest corner of the airport. The plane had a mechanical problem while trying to return to the airport. Fond du Lac and Town of Fond du Lac Fire Departments responded to the scene as well. Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they treated the two men that were in the heavily damaged single engine plane. They were then flown out by Flight for Life and ThedaStar helicopters. Both the pilot 78-year-old David Spencer and his passenger 71-year-old Rafael Chaves were taken to ThedaCare in Neenah. Spencer had critical injuries and Chaves injuries were serious.
