Plea Agreement In The Works For FDL Man

A plea deal is being worked out for the 47-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of driving off Winnebago Drive and critically injuring a 44-year-old Fond du Lac woman he hit. Aarron Schmitz was in Fond du Lac County Court Thursday for a hearing.  Schmitz is facing 2nd degree reckless injury, injury by use of a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor bail jumping charges for the May 14th accident that injured Traci Luther. Luther was out walking went Schmitz went off the roadway and hit her. He later told Sheriff’s Deputies he had taken Albuterol and Dayquill for pneumonia, but had also smoked three cigar-sized marijuana cigarettes and drank a liter of Kessler’s Whiskey the night before. Blood tests later showed he may also have had cocaine in his system. He told investigators he was on his way home from his roofing job when he fell asleep at the wheel. A jury trial is scheduled for October 29th, but that date could be used for a plea hearing.
