Plea Hearing For FDL Man In Intoxicated Injury Accident

A plea hearing is scheduled this morning for the 47-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of driving off Winnebago Drive and critically injuring a 44-year-old Fond du Lac woman he hit. Aarron Schmitz is charged in Fond du Lac County Court with 2nd degree reckless injury, injury by use of a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor bail charges for the May 14th accident that injured Traci Luther. Luther was out walking when Schmitz went off the roadway and hit her. He later told Sheriff’s Deputies he had taken Albuterol and Dayquill for pneumonia, but had also smoked three cigar-sized marijuana cigarettes and drank a liter of Kessler’s Whiskey the night before. Blood tests later showed he may also have had cocaine in his system. He told investigators he was on his way home from his roofing job when he fell asleep at the wheel.
