Pontoon Boat Sucked Into Neenah Menasha Dam

Three men suffered only minor injuries when their 24-foot pontoon boat was sucked into the Neenah-Menasha Dam Monday night. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say the men were trying to get an empty dingy that was caught in the safety cable of the dam. But the motor on their boat wasn’t powerful enough and the boat was sucked into the dam at the Oak Street Bridge in Neenah. One man used the safety cable to pull himself to shore, but the other two were pulled through the dam. They managed to swim to shore and suffered only minor injuries. The boat was crushed and is still wedged in the dam. The owner is making arrangements to have it removed. The Sheriff’s Department was aided at the scene by the Neenah-Menasha Fire Department. The time of the call was 9:05 p.m.
