Preparation For Empty Bowls Fundraiser

The annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser combines art and giving back, and the result is nothing short of amazing for the Fond du Lac community.  The 2014 fundraiser is set for December 3 and to help make it happen, area middle and high school students are crafting over 400 bowls.  Attendees will select a handcrafted bowl and enjoy soup and bread donated by local businesses as a reminder of those who are going hungry in our community.

The annual fundraiser luncheon, organized by the Leadership Fond du Lac Alumni Group, will take place on Wednesday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Retlaw Plaza Hotel. Tickets are $15 per person and are available at the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce (207 N Main Street) prior to the event and can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.  All proceeds raised will help to support local food pantries.

Students at Bessie Allen Middle School, Campbellsport Middle and High School, Fond du Lac High School, Horace Mann  High School, North Fond du Lac Alternative Learning Center, Laconia High School, Oakfield Middle & High School, St. Mary’s Springs Academy-High School, Theisen Middle School, Winnebago Lutheran Academy High School and Woodworth Middle School, have been busy crafting! Integrated as part of their art class, students are able to make unique bowls, which will serve as a powerful symbol for those who go hungry every day in the local community.

“The Leadership Fond du Lac Alumni Group has been directing this fundraising effort for numerous years,” stated Mary Gerlach, Leadership Fond du Lac Alumni and event chair.  “Last year we were able to raise $10,000 for local food pantries and are eager to see what this year brings.  Student involvement in this cause is so important and helps the entire community to better understand the impact of giving back and the importance of helping those in need.”
