Prosecutor Funding Bill

State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says he’s glad he could support an amendment to a State Senate bill that would provide funding for nearly 54 more prosecutors across the state. Two of those prosecutors would be for Fond du Lac County. Thiesfeldt praises Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney for getting creative in trying to find alternative funding sources for a couple of prosecutors positions in the County. He says, “He has worked with my office and the state senator’s office, previously Rick Gudex and now Dan Feyen, to try to get some additional funding for these district attorneys through grants and things like that. He has done good work on that, but even with that they were still short.” The bill was sent back to the State Senate where it could be taken up next month. Senator Dan Feyen says they have to do a little background on the Assembly’s amendment before they approve it and the bill it is attached to. He says, “On the surface it sounds like a great idea, but we need to do a little deeper dive to make sure that it is adding more prosecutors instead of just replacing the funding source for existing prosecutors.” The amendment would add funding for additional prosecutors in 40 different counties including Fond du Lac County.
