Public Health Officer Says State Should Do Wind Turbine Study

Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says a comprehensive study is needed on the effects of wind turbines on human health. Mueller says it’s something that was discussed at the Board of Health meeting this week. She says wind turbines can’t be declared a hazard to anyone’s health unless there is scientific research that backs up some of the claims people have come forward with. She says it would be irresponsible to declare wind turbines a health hazard without proof and it’s something she wouldn’t do. The County Board in August of 2013 passed a resolution asking the state to do a study and money was included in a state budget for the study, but later withdrawn. County Executive Al Buechel sent a letter to state legislators asking them to restore the funding for the study. Mueller says a study would have more credibility if it is backed by the state.
