Purchase Of Building Adjacent To FDL Public Library Being Considered By City

The Fond du Lac City Council this week will consider amending the budget to allow the purchase of the building directly east of the Public Library to expand the library. The project would cost $270,000 with $190,000 of that for the purchase of the property. A community development block grant from the Redevelopment Authority would provide $80,000 of that. The proposed purchase will be presented to the Plan Commission at their next meeting for review and recommendation. The City Council could act on the purchase at their March 25th meeting. Library Director Jon Mark Bolthouse says with the purchase of the building at 52 Sheboygan Street the Library could move the BookCellar into it. The space currently occupied by the BookCellar would be transformed into the Idea Studio, a permanent do-it-yourself makerspace where people can gather to create, invent and learn. The Library would also be able to expand the Children’s Room. The Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the City-County Government Center.
