Redistricting Case Moves Forward

Wisconsin’s new political maps are currently in the hands of the state Supreme Court – but may yet end up in federal court.

The U.S. Supreme Court last week denied a request by Wisconsin Republicans to halt a federal lawsuit over redrawing the state’s congressional and legislative districts.

That means groups affiliated with Democrats may still have an opportunity for a three judge federal panel to review the maps after the Wisconsin Supreme Court concludes work on the issue, likely early next year.

The state Supreme Court has already ruled that it will make as few changes as possible to the existing maps, which were drawn the Republican controlled legislature in 2011.
