Representative Ballweg On Right To Try Legislation

The State Assembly this week passed a bill that would give families with terminally ill loved ones more hope. The Right to Try legislation would allow those with terminal illness the ability to access investigational drugs, devices, and other products after exhausting all other available treatment options. State Representative Joan Ballweg says it would give families some peace of mind that they tried everything possible. She says there is some opposition to the bill in the medical community. She says the Medical Society and Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians are opposed to it feeling it isn’t appropriate. The bill now goes to the Wisconsin State Senate. Right to Try is law in 33 states. U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is pushing similar legislation at the federal level.
