Retailers Prepare for Sales Tax Holiday

Wisconsin retailers are gearing up for the back-to-school sales tax holiday. For the first five days in August, items like computers, clothes, and school supplies can be purchased without the usual five-percent state sales tax. Certain other rules apply. For instance, the tax exemption does apply to qualifying items bought online. Since the holiday is new, store owners admit they don’t know what to expect. Big retailers like ShopKo plan to offer discounts on items that are not exempt.
