Retlaw Hotel Squares Debt With City

If a credit card payment clears for property taxes the owners of the Retlaw Plaza Hotel owe they will have their liquor license renewed by the City. The hotel made the payment Thursday a day after the Fond du Lac City Council decided not to renew the liquor license unless accounts were squared up by the end of the month. Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan says they entered Wednesday night’s meeting with the understanding that the owners of the historic hotel were going to make things right by paying the City what they owed for utilities and property taxes. Lorrigan says the Council had no choice given the past history of the way the owners of the hotel dealt with the City.Unlike two years ago when the Retlaw faced a similar situation there were no representatives for the owners from the hotel or employees present to appeal to the Council. Lorrigan says that was also disappointing.
