Ripon Man Found Competent To Stand Trial

The 45-year-old Ripon man suspected of hiding his brother’s corpse in a barrel has been found competent to stand trial. Robert Diamentis was in Fond du Lac County Court for a hearing Monday morning. The competency hearing was ordered during his preliminary hearing this past June. A new preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd.  According to the criminal complaint he hid the body of his brother 45-year-old Richard Diamentis in a 50 gallon barrel at a residence on Olden Road. Richard allegedly died in February. The body was discovered after Town of Ripon Police asked Sheriff’s deputies for help on welfare check.  Richard suffered from a medical condition that affected mobility and coordination. Robert Diamentis allegedy told investigators Richard died February 24th. He allegedly didn’t report the death fearing people would accuse him of mistreating Richard.
