Road Conditions Getting Worse
(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is asking drivers to use extra caution today, especially during the evening commute, as the first significant winter storm is predicted to bring several inches of snow to Northeast Wisconsin. The heavy snow and wind will present various driving challenges to motorists tonight through Tuesday morning. These challenges include:
- Significant snow fall, with locally heavy (6+ inch) amounts in Northeast Wisconsin.
- Slushy pavement and slippery conditions in some locations
- High winds creating poor visibility and icy conditions
- Drifting of snow, especially during the evening hours
The Wisconsin State Patrol recommends motorists keep an eye on the changing weather conditions and check road condition updates. Other important considerations the State Patrol recommends:
- Minimize unnecessary travel
- Leave early; allow extra time for travel.
- Slow down and drive for conditions. Posted speed limits are for dry pavement.
- Slow down well before approaching stoplights or intersections.
- Be sure to keep plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Sudden stops and sharp turns will likely cause your car to lose control.
- Motorists are advised to be extra cautious on bridges and interchange ramps.
