Salvation Army Sees More Need For Summer Assistance Programs

Fond du Lac’s Salvation Army wrapped up two of their summer assistance programs in the past week. The distribution for the Back to School program was at the Boys & Girls Club this past Saturday. Salvation Army Social Services Director Ron Jacobson says nearly 1,000 children received back to school supplies during the distribution. The actual number was 962 children. Meanwhile the Brown Bag Lunch program finished up last Thursday. About 3,000 more people picked up lunches that the Salvation Army put together each Tuesday and Thursday of the program. The total of lunches served was 15,519. Last year the Salvation Army put together about 650 lunches a day for the program and this summer that number was around 800. Jacobson says without their many volunteers they wouldn’t be able to offer the Back to School or Brown Bag Lunch programs.
