Saputo Cheese Closing In FDL
Saputo Cheese will be closing its plant on East Scott Street in Fond du Lac next May. That will leave 126 people out of work. Employees will receive severance pay and some will be offered the chance to work for other Saputo facilities. Company officials estimate they will save about $5.5 million a year by moving operations to a newly-built blue cheese factory in Almena, in western Wisconsin. The Montreal based company says closing the plant will cost it $17 million, but it will begin realizing savings in its 2019 fiscal year.
