Scammers Use High Pressure Tactics And Threats

An official with the state’s Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says high pressure sales tactics and threats are a couple ways scammers will try and persuade you to fall for their pitch. Michelle Reinen is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. She says such scams are usually unsolicited. It is a call, email or text message that comes out of the blue. Reinen says one of the reasons the IRS scam works so well is because of the threat that you may be arrested. Another effective scam this time of year involved the threat that your utilities will be shut off because of money you owe on a bill.
