Schimel Expected to Make Announcement on Recount Plans

Attorney General Brad Schimel is set to announce today whether he plans to seek a recount in his race against Democratic challenger Josh Kaul.

The Wisconsin Election Commission announced Friday that based on canvassed vote totals, Kaul received 17,190 more votes than Schimel on election day. That is within the 1-percent point margin that would allow for a recount – but Schimel would have to pay for it.

The race has not been called, because it was too close. Schimel admitted on election night that it appeared Kaul had won, but he would not concede the contest. His deadline for deciding on a recount is Wednesday.
