Schimel Warns of Callers Spoofing DOJ, DCI Numbers

Attorney General Brad Schimel is joining the chorus of voices warning citizens about spoof phone calls from people claiming to be police. He says if you get a call from any agency and it doesn’t seem right – you should hang up and contact the department’s non-emergency number. Callers are claiming to be from local law enforcement offices, the

Department of Justice, and even the Division of Criminal Investigation. People may also receive calls appearing to come from the FBI, IRS, or even immigration services – and it looks to be the agency’s real number. Schimel reminds people to never give out personal information over the phone and contact law enforcement – or file a complaint through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
