School Resource Officer Program Discussed

The Fond du Lac School District and Fond du Lac Police are reviewing their fiscal arrangement for the school resource officer program. Both pay 50 percent of the costs for five officers. Two are stationed at the High School and one a piece at the three middle schools. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says other school districts have different arrangements when it comes to how long the program is in place during a year. Some districts pay for nine months or just during the school year and not the summer months. In other scenarios the law enforcement agency pays for the entire costs, which is rare. Sebert feels it is a good partnership and the school district is very fortunate to have school resource officers in its schools. The School Board discussed the issue in closed session Monday night.
