Security Upgrades at FDL City/County Government Center Begin Today

Security upgrades at the Fond du Lac City/County Government
Center go into place this morning. As of 7:30 am today, the only place the
public can enter or exit the building is through the north entrance off of
Second Street. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Bill Tadych says visitors to
the building should expect to pass through a security checkpoint before
entering. “It will be like going through TSA screening at the airport,
basically,” Tadych said. “There’s an x-ray machine for your baggage, and you’ll
empty the contents of your pockets – put that into one of the bins we have. It’ll
go through the x-ray machine, then you’ll walk through the metal detector – and
if nothing goes off on that, you’ll collect your items and you’ll go right on
through.” The security checkpoint will be manned until 5 pm weekdays – with
access to the building after-hours permitted when public meetings are being
held.

In addition to the checkpoint, the security upgrades
include more staffing to help with court and building security. Tadych asks the
public for patience as the security procedures are implemented and any kinks
are worked out over the next few weeks.
