Semi Driver Injured in I-41 Crash Tuesday

A 64-year-old man from Michigan suffered serious injuries after the semi he was driving crashed on Interstate 41 in the Town of Byron Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with City of Fond du Lac Ambulance and the Oakfield Fire Department were called to southbound I-41 near County Highway B around 2:40 in the afternoon for a report of a semi-tractor trailer that had crashed.

Investigators say evidence at the scene found the driver was traveling south on the interstate when the truck drifted off the road and into the ditch where it overturned onto the passenger side. First responders helped the driver get out of the cab, and he was taken to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment.

The interstate was closed for around three hours for initial cleanup, then closed again for several hours into the late evening to finish removing the contents of the semi. Also assisting at the scene were the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
