Senator Gudex Pleased Manure Spill Won’t Impact Anglers

State Senator Rick Gudex says he’s glad to see the DNR has given the all clear for anglers to fish Lake Winnebago following last week’s manure spill at the Lake Breeze Dairy in Malone. The spill occurred into Pipe Creek, but some of the 50,000 gallons of manure washed into the southeastern portion of the lake from the creek.  Gudex says the good news is timely with Walleye Weekend coming up in Fond du Lac this weekend. Gudex says at first there was finger pointing, but now everyone seems to be working in recovery mode. He says the DNR is being very open about their investigation and in providing information to the public. Gudex, who is from Fond du Lac, likes to fish for perch and crappie on the Lake Winnebago and says it’s precious resource that needs to be treated as such. DNR officials say the creek has returned to pre-spill conditions and fish have migrated back into it.
