Senior Outreach Program Holds Heart Tree Fundraiser

The Senior Outreach Program, a unique program at the Fond du Lac Senior Center whose mission focuses on reducing loneliness and isolation for seniors, and providing education on available resources, is holding its annual Heart Tree Fundraiser through February to honor loved ones in the community.

Each delicate spun glass heart ornament is hung on a cherry blossom tree in memory of a deceased loved one or in honor of a special person who is still living. The cherry blossom tree represents the beauty and fragility of life. Each heart dedication is $3.00 and payments are taken at the Fond du Lac Senior Center, 151 E. 1st Street, Fond du Lac, Wis. They will be hung on the cherry blossom tree in the Fond du Lac Senior Center’s main lobby.

There will be a Heart Tree Dedication ceremony on Monday, March 6 by Chaplain Bob Lantz of Heartland Hospice at 1:00 p.m. at the Fond du Lac Senior Center to conclude the Heart Tree fundraiser. Everyone is welcome to attend this event.

“Healthy aging is one of our primary focuses here at our Center, and we believe our purpose is to ensure people stay active and involved in the community as they age,” Program Director, Outreach & Wellness Coordinator Sarah Docter said. “There are numerous health risks involved with loneliness and isolation, and our programs here seek to combat and reverse those effects.”

The proceeds of the Heart Tree fundraiser will go towards sustaining and growing the Senior Outreach Program. The Senior Outreach Program is sponsored by the Fond du Lac Area United Way, Fond du Lac County Department of Community Programs, Fond du Lac Area Foundation and the Friends of the Fond du Lac Senior Center, Inc.
