Serial Killer Will Remain at Mendota Mental Health Institute

For the second time in 18 months, a Washington County judge has turned down a 71-year-old serial killer’s request to be released from the Mendota Mental Health Institute. Alvin Taylor killed four men in the mid-1980s in Wisconsin. One of the victims was from Washington County. Taylor was found not guilty of the crimes because of mental disease or defect and has been in Mendota for 30 years. This week Washington County Judge Andrew Gonring said that nothing has really changed since Taylor’s previous request to be released. He says Mendota staff report that Taylor is still at risk of harming others. Under state law, Taylor can apply for release again in six months.
